The Mustard Band - Our history

Mustard is an entertainment machine featuring Samuel Jared with his team of elite pianists.

Mustard has had vast experience and endless happy customers entertaining for wedding receptions and private functions with a repertoire capable of spanning from dinner ballads to dance-floor classics.

The Mustard band met in 2008 when they worked together on a extraordinary piece of musical theatre ('Still Standing' by Margery Ford)

The great success of the show proved that an exceptional musical bond had developed throughout it's season and Sam wasn't satisfied to stop there, so in the wake of the show he formed the covers outfit, Mustard.

Wanting to do something more than just another covers band, he created an acoustic instrument and vocal ensemble that has the diversity and charisma to fit in any venue, any time.

Samuel Jared - Vocals, Guitar, Percussion

Picture
Sam got his first guitar for his 6th birthday and showed a great musical aptitude immediately,  this was the start of his passion for creating music.

By early high school his collection of musical instruments was growing as he began to also master the drums and soon after, piano. Before long Sam had become a very versatile asset to many school, church and theatrical bands.

The enjoyment he got from performing and singing has seen him continue onto involvement in many professional cover and stage bands and also theatre, having acted and played in many Qld theatres.

Sam has now built a solid reputation throughout Qld as a strong and sought-after vocalist, guitar player and great entertainer.

Sam's music is complimented by his work history in sound and lighting production and his vast experience is evident in the production quality of Mustard.

Nick Muir - Keyboard, Vocals

Picture
Nick is one of the founding members of the Mustard Band and has played hundreds of performances with Samuel Jared in different Mustard outfits.

Nick has been performing live around Australia as a pianist/singer for the last 15 years, initially as an original artist, and during that time has played supports for leading acts such as Jimmy Barnes, Screaming Jets, Kenny Wayne Shepard.

In addition to Mustard, Nick also has involvement in a number of other huge musical projects such as the Chisel Revived Show, the Living On A Prayer Bon Jovi Show, and has recorded and performed with many local and interstate artists.

Nick is what you would call a diligent musician, and has a passion for this industry. If you have the pleasure of meeting this guy, it won't be long until you hear him say "What an industry!"

As a southpaw, Nick has a left hand that will vanquish every pianist joke you've ever heard!

Jeremy Cook - Keyboards, Vocals

Picture
Jeremy has been playing keys ever since he can remember. From 'twinkle twinkle' on his mum's piano, studying his way through his AMEB exams to becoming a piano teacher Jeremy has been a stand out player who 'knows how to make that thing talk!'

Jeremy graduated his degree in popular music from the Queensland Conservatorium at age 21 and has since worked as both a producer and session musician on many projects for local and interstate artists.

His passion for music and ear for fine detail is what makes him such an asset to the Mustard team and why he is affectionately known as our very own 'Note Nazi'

Jeremy also has an incredible ability to sing ANY harmony in ANY octave and the length of his keyboard solos are directly proportionate to the amount of bars granted to him!

Sarah Lynch - Keyboards, Vocals

Picture
Since she was a young girl Sarah has oozed creativity. Her flare for all things 'art' .permeates from her photography all the way through to her music.

Sarah has been playing piano (almost non-stop) for the last 10 years having been involved in everything from cover bands to Farnham tributes, weddings to massive Christmas productions - Sarah is no stranger to the stage.

Besides working as a band director at The Dream Centre, Sarah is also a tech-savvy recording artist and spends many hours in her studio making good use of her Masters Certificate in song writing.

Sarah now owns the most coveted piece of kit amongst the Mustard team - her new shiny RED 'Nord' keyboard.

With the voice of a riled cherub, watch out for this girl's harmonies - and watch out for more 'Sarah Lynch' coming to a music industry near you!

Ryan Lewis - Drums

Picture
It's been said that Rhinos have small brains,
well this certainly is not the case for our Ryno!

Aside from collecting fairly normal things like crash cymbals, and every type of drumstick ever made, our Ryno is also accumulating quite a collection of undergraduate degrees,
all while maintaining a solid involvement in the Mustard Band, and a healthy roll of drum students.

Our Ryno is sharp; from his finesse around the drumkit, all the way through to the way that he dresses.
Ryan's the drummer package that's hard to find, he is sensitive (drums and otherwise), professional, diligent,
passionate...and he doesn't speed up! It's almost too good to be true..
In fact, I think I would be remiss to not mention that he is also the last of the single Mustard Muso's ;-)

And just to round out this great story, did you know that a group of Rhinos is called a "Crash" - how apt!

Michael Hickey - Guitars, Vocals

Picture
Mike would tell you that he felt the stirring of this gift from an early age. It was nurtured in a very supportive environment and encouraged to be developed. As a kid he remembers strumming anything he could lay his hands on (yes, even tennis racquets) until he got his first 'real' guitar at the age of 13.

And so the journey began...

Songwriting came next - lyrics, melodies, chords, accompaniment, arrangements; sometimes coming all at once and sometimes laboured over for days...weeks... months...

Music Production, exploring other Instruments and Recording quickly followed as a means to capture the 'moments' which thus birthed a passion for all things technical and the never ending challenge to balance raw organic creativity with clinical technology.

"Music is my life. It's with me every waking moment like a faithful companion. I know I was created to play, sing, write and share the joy that music brings to me."
